Beacon authority
Definition
A Beacon authority was a best value authority that was awarded Beacon status for demonstrating excellence within a specific service area. A best value authority can be a:
- council
- fire, police, parks, transport and waste authority.
An authority remained a Beacon authority for 15 months. Awards were made annually.
The Beacon scheme ended in March 2010 and was replaced by the Local Innovation Awards scheme.
