New Channel guidance

A new guidance document on Channel, a multi agency process to provide support to those who may be vulnerable to being drawn into violent extremism, was published on 31 March 2010. The guidance provides local partners in England and Wales with advice on implementing Channel and details of the support that it can provide for individuals identified as vulnerable.  The guidance and a background briefing from RICU are attached to this email.  Also available from the link below:

CLG committee report

The Communities and Local Government Select Committee Report on Preventing Violent Extremism was published on the 30th March.  The report is attached to this email, along with responses from CLG and LGA, and a briefing note from RICU

New Prevent communications guide

RICU and Communities and Local Government (CLG) have recently announced the publication of the 'Prevent: A Communications Guide'. The guidance brings together broad communications principles within the Prevent context and looks at how thiss can be used to support the delivery of all its objectives.

New tool for the public to report terrorist activities online

The Home Office has launched the following pilot pages through Directgov, which will enable members of the public to report violent extremist internet content.

Prevent: update, learning and discussion sessions for councillors

These sessions have been designed in recognition of councillors’ unique role in supporting resilience and leading local communities. The timing has been chosen to minimise clashes with both budget-setting and purdah. The aim is to improve councillors’ knowledge and access to support and information.

Yorkshire and Humber RIEP (YoHr) Pilot Programme

YoHr Space, the RIEP for Yorkshire and Humber, is progressing a number of pilot projects focusing on the community cohesion and Prevent agendas. These include the MAPPA project, Young people project, Mosques project, Community cohesion and Prevent research project, and supporting Prevent across the region.

Beacon Authority Waltham Forest Prevent work featured in BBC case study

Read about some of the pioneering work that IDeA Beacon authority Waltham Forest have been doing to address issues around radicalisation of young people in Britain. The BBC have recently requested to use Waltham Forest's work in a case study, which you can read about on the Prevent CoP.
