Alliance for international development

LG Improvement and Development is a member of the UK Local Government Alliance for International Development, which aims to encourage and promote international development participation among local governments and communities. A key objective is to raise awareness and understanding about the importance of international development issues. LG Improvement and Development's specific contribution to the Alliance is access to the modernisation and improvement of local government.

Other core members of the Alliance are:

  • Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF)
  • Local Government Association (LGA)
  • National Association of Local Councils (NALC)
  • Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers (SOLACE).

The Alliance believes in collaboration and partnership between local governments to:

  • learn and share from good practice
  • capitalise on synergies
  • develop new markets
  • provide new and better products and services.

We have much to gain from local communities around the world and sharing our experiences with them.

Some of the benefits of getting involved with international development activities include:

  • increasing global and European awareness
  • accessing EU funding
  • improving service delivery
  • solving problems through sharing experience
  • professional development and training.

Broader benefits include:

  • improving social welfare
  • health and education
  • raising public awareness
  • strengthening governance and democracy
  • increasing economic and business links.
