Policy and performance community of practice
This page introduces you to LG Improvement and Development's policy and performance community of practice (CoP), the interactive side of our policy work.
This policy resource provides you with information and materials. But the CoP is where you can contribute online to developments you have read about on this resource.
Joining the CoP
If you're not a member of the Communities of Practice website, you will need to register to gain access but it’s a fairly simple process so don’t let that put you off.
Register here for the CoP platform.
The purpose of the CoP is to share ideas and practice on developing and implementing better performance and improvement policy. It is the online home of a supportive network of policy practitioners. It is a communication channel between LG Improvement and Development's policy unit and practitioners as we work with the Local Government Association, central government and regulators to develop more effective and practical improvement policy.
What the CoP contains
The CoP contains a range of interactive information including:
- discussion threads which people raise and get responses to, including what support is needed on local performance indicators in the national performance framework and process mapping
- related events, including learning from Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council’s work on performance management, an Inter Authorities Group event on climate change and details of the Policy Network’s annual conference
- details of CoP members
- a document library of related papers from events and developments, such as briefing and outcome papers, our policy performance reference group – the face-to-face side of our online CoP – you can find out more about this group through the CoP’s wiki (an editable online resource)
- news articles via links to Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds – alerts that you sign up to that let you know the latest news on any given topic that you choose
- blog entries where people have web logged, otherwise known as 'blogged', their experiences and linked their policy and performance entries to our CoP
Top of the CoPs – an interview with four policy and performance officers about their use of the CoP
