Ashridge Virtual Learning Resource Centre

This resource helps you develop as a manager and leader. Access a range of development materials through our specially-designed tool for leadership competencies, covering the LG Improvement and Development political skills framework and managerial leadership skills.

How to get into the resource

You will need a '.gov.uk' email address to enter:

  1. Log into the our website – if you haven't done so already.
  2. Enter the resource. The link will automatically appear below if you have logged in with a '.gov.uk' email.

Note: If you do not have a '.gov.uk' email address you may still qualify for access if you work for one of our selected partner authorities.

What is it?

We have partnered with leading business school Ashridge to help you with your personal professional development. Together, we provide a learning tool for political and managerial leadership that filters the Ashridge resource according to 10 key LG Improvement and Development leadership competencies. The resource contains:

  • approximately 60 learning guides, providing in-depth training in professional issues from action learning to writing business plans
  • more than 60 management pocket books, providing easily-digestible information on issues from assertiveness to working in virtual teams
  • over 130 in-depth book reviews, summarising aspects of the latest management thinking and more besides
  • 46 essays on leadership and management topics from Bloomsbury publishing.

The Ashridge Journal

Ashridge publishes a quarterly journal containing the latest thinking and research from the Ashridge faculty. The Autumn 2008 issue was a public sector special, with the lead article considering the need for competitive spirit in public sector management:
