International learning

Faced with the demand for ever more efficient and cost-effective services, there has never been a better time for councils to look to international examples of innovative service delivery for fresh perspectives.

The Local Government Association (LGA), together with the Local Government Improvement and Development, has established this new resource. It aims to help council officers and elected members learn from the approaches of international counterparts to particular policy challenges.

Information and learning

The information and good practice in the following sections are arranged according to four principal subject areas:

  • adult social care
  • housing
  • performance management
  • social enterprise.

Good practice in one country is not necessarily applicable in another. Differences may be many and varied, from fiscal and cultural to geographical and demographic. Nevertheless, learning more about work in other countries can help to inform thinking here. It is entirely possible that elements of a particular approach used abroad could be applied to a UK context.
