Local Leadership Academy (LoLA) councillor workbooks

These workbooks provide a series of distance learning materials aimed at helping all councillors in their ward roles of community leaders and advocates. They cover a broad range of generic skills as well as specific issues and service and or policy areas and their impact at ward level. As such the workbooks will be particularly useful to new councillors.

Each workbook has been designed as a standalone unit that should take two to three hours to complete. They can be used by individual councillors as part of their own personal development, or they can be used with groups of councillors as part of a wider development programme.

The workbooks are provided free of charge as PDF downloads for use by councils and councillors to meet their member development needs. It is acknowledged that some of the workbooks will be of interest to other users – that is, other public sector and voluntary sector bodies – and they are free to use the workbooks in their existing format for their own in-house training purposes.

Note: the workbooks should not be used for commercial purposes, nor amended or adapted in any way without the express agreement of the LG Improvement and Development.
